Will Ciano be next?

I have heard rumours in the Municipal Buildings that ex Provost Ciano Rebecchi might be set to follow in the footsteps of his former colleague George White by quitting the Lib Dems.

Ciano is said to be increasingly frustrated by the leadership of Lib Dem Group Leader Alan Blair.

Mind you it could be that Ciano has one eye on next year's Council elections. Having struggled to get elected as a Lib Dem in 2007 Ciano might think that he would have a better chance as a independent next time around, given that the Lib Dems' national popularity has plummeted since they went into coalition with the Tories.

I suspect that if he is thinking of quitting Ciano will wait until he sees how Ross Finnie gets on at May's Scottish Parliament election before making his mind up.

  1. Another decent Labour candidate would clean up in Branchton and Larkfield. We have an excellent community spirit linking these two areas. Already there is a feeling towards Labour from those who attend Branchton community centre and this is because of the hard work put in by one of your Labour members who is well thought of out here. I would never tell anyone who to put forward, but on this occasion I would offer some advice. Mr Rebecci and Fergusson had links to the areas that bode well for them. Mr Rebecci has spent his hand. Mr Innes rode on the back of Mr Fergusson and the people of these areas have no regard for Mr Innes whatsover.
Dont put up a candidate that doesnt know or understand the area as we have seen it all before ,and can see these guys a mile away. The demographic of these areas is changing and party alliance will lose out in favour to someone the people can connect with.
Give us someone who knows Greenock and the problems we face.Thank you for your time.

  2. I must agree with Graham, this ward needs a man of substance and that is why we voted Innes Nelson .twice you put the same candidate up and twice he was beat by an SNP candidate.Old ex union men are a thing of the past,Innes Nelson has business experience which is whatis needed in politics.
    Admit defeat in this ward

  3. There must be two Innes Nelsons, Stuart, as I don't know this man of substance you are talking about.

In fact I have been very disappointed in Innes since he joined the Council. He does have an eye for detail but little understanding of the bigger picture.

I am also surprised by how keen he has been to work with Alan Blair and the Lib Dems given the bitter battle he had with them when he was chair of the community council.

Mind you Alan and Innes have quite similar personalities, so it is maybe not all that surprising.

  4. Fine words by Graham and ones that probably resonate with quite a few labour supporters throughout Inverclyde. Continuing to engage with communities and understanding their needs is key to labours future successes not only locally but nationally too. We can’t assume that the grass root support labour has had over the years will remain with us without backing that support up with an active presence and a doable attitude.

Politics ,just a game to some with fancy replies to set up questions.
But I admire your new posts tonight,a political blog with a serious political theme
