What's the end game?

I watched some of the Parliamentary debate on Libya tonight.

While the vast majority of MPs are clearly convinced that the government was right to promote the UN resolution and participate in the military action, they don't seem as clear about what the end game is.

Mind you the government itself is a bit confused with the Defence Secretary and Downing Street sources hinting that Gaddafi could be a target for assassination, while senior military officers have stated that this would be a contravention of the UN resolution.

While regime change may not be the stated intention, I am not sure how this sits with coalition forces attacking Gaddafi's troops when they attack the 'rebels' but standing back while the 'rebels' themselves advance on areas held by Gaddafi's men.

I suspect that this story has a way to run.

  1. Well you know how it is Stephen when governments want regime change and there is oil to be had then they will normally find some excuse. It’s just a shame that Zimbabwe does not have vast oil resources otherwise we might have seen the back of Robert Gabriel Mugabe by now. Anyway in some ways it’s good to see that now you have washed your hands of your failing FOM at the Council that you have more time to take an interest in world affairs. Stephen it’s not that I am knocking you for trying to grasp the big picture but would you not have been less of a girl if you had just stuck it out long enough as Council Leader to sort out the problems that you are ultimately responsible for. Oh well I suppose this blogging caper is more achievable for you. Keep up the good work - it certainly shows you for what you are.
