Update on Shared Campus

I chaired a meeting of the Council's Shared Campus Working Group tonight.

Prior to the start of the meeting members of the group were given a tour of St Stephen's to see the work that was carried out over the summer in preparation for the temporary shared campus from August next year. The work included the reinstatement of science and technical classrooms, the relocation of the St Stephen's Music Department to new accommodation and the creation of a new fitness room with changing accommodation. The members of the group seemed impressed by the quality of the work carried out.

During the meeting we were given an update on the design of the new shared campus. In the next couple of months feedback will be provided to stakeholders on the first round of consultation that took place before the summer and further input sought to help inform development of the detailed design. Again members of the working group were impressed by what they saw and heard.

The next meeting of the group is on 25 October.

  1. I must ask ,with the cuts that are due to hit Inverclyde why you are still pushing ahead with these plans. As you have said St Stephens high has been upgraded recently, new windows and continuining modernisation has seen it transformed into a decent building .This goes for Port glasgow high. The announcement of the work to Overton primary ,again a school that just needs modest modernisation, not the millions you have promised.I am not denying these schools arent state of the art, but do we need state of the art when the financial situation is so dire.
I sit every day with my workmates reading about these cuts and we all agree none of our children ever come in from school complainin of being cold,or lack of facilities. This is not the right time for all this investment, but you dont seem to be willing to stop this run away train of spending.Oh and by the way I am a labour voter .

  2. I am not convinced that you are a Labour voter but I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

I am not sure what schools your kids attend but I know plenty of parents in Port Glasgow who think their kids secondary schools should be as good as the new Inverclyde Academy, Notre Dame High School and Clydeview Academy. As long as I am Council Leader kids in Port Glasgow won't have to settle for second best.
