"ill-natured" - me?

I see that Lib Dem Group Leader Alan Blair has described me as "ill-natured" in today's Greenock Telegraph for simply pointing out that if he had genuinely wanted the Administration's support for a car park in Cardwell Bay he should actually have spoken to us before Council budget meeting.

I am reliably informed that I have also upset former Lib Dem Provost Ciano "we should all work together" Rebecchi with my post "Will Ciano be next?".

If Ciano is denying that he has any intention of quitting the Lib Dems I am more than happy to accept his word.

Mind you this may not be the most politically astute decision he has ever made given the plummeting popularity of the Lib Dems.

  1. Stephen,I have been a keen follower of politics for many a long year both locally and nationally .I have seen some comments on
here regarding the commitment of politicians of all parties. As a young man I have no doubts that you are very committed to your
politics,if not I doubt you would spend as much time as you do,working and campaigning, as I see you quite regular out and about and have met you in Clune Park. And this helps you understand your community and the hardship they face.

Unfortunately I dont see a lot of life experience in a lot of politicians nowadays.Well meaning university educated, but little knowledge. How can they understand family needs if they dont visit families in need. How can they understand the complexities of a housing scheme if they have never lived in one or near one.How can they understand the desperation of poverty if they dont see the
day to day lives of the poor.
Life experience makes most of us what we are. Politicians in their 20s and with the desire to be career politicians , but were is their story of first hand knowledge or a life lived. Someone refered to older people standing as politicians.I disagree somewhat as
older people have experienced more. But most older politicians are very comfortable , and so I question their need to do this job now.
Why didnt they do it when they were young men like you. Why wait until retirement. I vote for values in a man. Those willing to help others when they could do with a little help themselves.
Im sure there are times you think why am I doing this,I could be sitting with my feet up watching the football like everyone else
or having a lie in .So this time and next year I will be watching carefully the commitment of those running for election and voting for the hard workers not the ones with the best lines or academic acheivements. And you will certainly get my 1st preference for exactly the reasons stated above.

  6. Hi Stephen, just read James McColgans letter.I voted labour at the las t election, but do we the public have any say in who us Labour supporters get to run on our behalf from your party. I stay In ward 3 and would like to think if I am voting Labour that like James we have someone who knows the area and its problems. No disrespect but some of the people representing us seem to be from another town, not knowing anyone in the area or any of the business people
or who is up to no good .If they do not know how can they talk with the police and wardens if they are unfamiliar with the problems.

Hi Stephen this is a good thread with a lot of good points being raised. I would just like to assure Iain above that I'm fully aware of the problems of Ward 3. I stay in the town centre and my brother stays in Drumfrochar Road. We only have one Labour Councillor out of the four reprsenting the ward. Councillor Blair Seems more interested in Car Parks in Gourouck than his own ward. I can be contacted at :- jim.clocherty@inverclyde.gov.uk
